GreenEnergyBreaks — Frontieras North America Advances Industry Groundbreaking Mason County Project as Momentum Builds Ahead of April 9 Pricing Update

Company: Frontieras North America
Category: News

CEO Matt McKean frames groundbreaking as launch of a new industrial category, supported by state leadership and major economic impact

Frontieras North America is sharpening focus on its Mason County Plant groundbreaking as a defining “industry-making” milestone, with CEO and co-founder Matt McKean emphasizing that the company is “not just breaking ground on a project, but breaking ground on an industry.” At the ceremony in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, McKean highlighted the company’s patented FASForm technology, which “cracks” coal into its base elements and converts every input molecule into high-value outputs including ultra-low sulfur diesel, fertilizers, sulfuric acid and advanced carbon materials—positioning the platform as a next-generation alternative to legacy coal conversion methods.

The project is now underway at the 183-acre site along W.Va. 62, where the company plans to process approximately 2.7 million tons of coal annually sourced from northern West Virginia. The facility is expected to produce roughly 15,000 barrels per day of diesel alongside a diversified slate of commercial products, with logistics supported by direct access to river barge and rail infrastructure. Phase one is projected to employ 200 to 250 permanent workers, with as many as 2,000 to 2,500 construction jobs during development, as Frontieras advances an estimated $850 million investment with plans for immediate expansion into a second phase.

Government leaders reinforced the project’s broader significance during the ceremony, with remarks from Governor Patrick Morrisey, Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Secretary of State Kris Warner underscoring the initiative’s role in driving economic growth, strengthening domestic energy innovation and positioning West Virginia at the forefront of advanced coal technologies. The strong alignment between public leadership and private investment highlights growing momentum behind the project as Frontieras moves closer to commercial execution and a key pricing milestone set for April 9.
