Renewable Energy Solutions Do More Beyond Generating Power, WEF Says

The World Economic Forum (WEF) says renewable energy solutions like wind, solar, and hydropower have the potential to do more than generate clean energy. In a blog that was recently published as part of its Annual Meeting of the New Champions, the non-governmental organization outlined how green energy solutions could be used to both generate renewable energy and protect air, water, and land quality.

According to the WEF, ecological planning and digital technology are increasingly guiding infrastructure projects in the energy sector. China, for instance, is using renewable energy solutions as tools to help create more flexible and adaptable energy systems that can evolve with, rather than to the detriment of, nature.

China Huaneng Group Chairman Wen Shugang notes that as countries speed up renewable energy investments, it has become quite apparent that green energy is ‘fundamentally’ changing how humanity interacts with nature. Instead of going against nature to achieve its objectives, humanity could use renewables to work alongside nature to reach its goals.

Consequently, the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is enabling countries like China to make systemic changes in their approaches to energy infrastructure and environmental preservation.

Shugang writes that China is using innovative projects in the energy sector to guide industrial improvements, develop its climate resilience, and rehabilitate landscapes that were degraded by its rapid industrialization. As the largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, China is working to reduce its impact on global climate via massive investments in green energy and power transmission infrastructure.

The global capacity for green energy increased by 15.1% last year, with 60% of all new capacity occurring in China.

As a result of the East Asian country’s efforts to adopt clean energy, its energy generation-related carbon dioxide emissions have stabilized even though electricity demand in China is on the rise.

Meanwhile, eliminating carbon dioxide from power generation remains a top priority on the global stage, especially now that the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent in numerous territories. Making proper use of renewable energy solutions and infrastructure could allow nations across the globe to achieve their climate action goals and reshape how industry relates to nature.

As renewable energy generation grows, digital energy services, green hydrogen, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and other emerging industries are congregating around green energy hubs and building green energy-reliant industrial ecosystems. Such ecosystems can underpin intense decarbonization in conventional economic activities and help create new employment opportunities in service, construction, and technical sectors.

As green technologies like the EVs made by firms like Mullen Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ: MULN) gain a deeper penetration of the market, broader benefits like job creation, improved air quality and reduced noise pollution will be realized.
