With over 3,000 residents in the minimalist housing complex Möckernkiez embracing balcony solar panels, Germany has now installed more than one million balcony solar systems. The compact panels, which attach to balconies and building facades, allow renters and apartment dwellers to produce electricity without rooftop access or the property ownership requirements that typically restrict solar adoption. Möckernkiez, a cooperative housing complex in central Berlin, exemplifies the trend.
