Despite the Trump administration’s concerted efforts to kill renewable energy in the U.S., the current regime is ironically accelerating the growth of America’s nascent renewable energy industry.
President Donald Trump has made his disdain for renewable energy quite clear, going as far as to repeal dozens of sustainability-related policies instituted by the Biden administration as soon as he began his second term.
In recent months, his administration has taken to paying companies to stop constructing renewable energy infrastructure, making it 100% clear that Trump’s federal government is fully against green energy.
Anyone looking from the outside in would be forgiven for thinking America’s renewable energy industry is at its lowest point. The president is firmly on the side of the fossil fuel industry, and his administration is going out of its way to kill clean energy projects across the country.
However, American green energy seems to be ramping up at a surprising pace, with preliminary data from the Energy Information Agency revealing that 90% of the 85 GW of new generating capacity the U.S. is set to install over the next 12 months will come from renewable infrastructure.
Ironically, coal will comprise exactly 0% of the new capacity in spite of the aggressive measures President Donald Trump has taken to revive coal production and use in the U.S. Instead of incentivizing the country to move back to fossil fuels, Trump’s unique approach to energy policy is making fossil fuels less attractive and pushing renewables to the forefront.
For instance, renewable energy supplies aren’t tied to volatile international energy markets or the Middle East, where tensions are sky-high due to the U.S.-Iran war.
The rollout of AI data centers countrywide has also caused demand for renewables to surge. To avoid years-long gas turbine wait times, tech companies are turning to renewables, which can be brought online on much shorter timelines.
One study by engineers at Penn State University discovered that AI data centers cause wind turbines to wear out faster, causing such data centers to burn through turbines at a faster rate, and forcing suppliers to build even more wind turbines.
Even though the Trump administration denigrated renewables and pushed fossil fuels, green energy still accounted for 80% of new capacity installed in 2025, and 76% of the capacity added from January to May 2026. Wind energy capacity, which regularly draws the ire of President Trump, has grown by 6.3 gigawatts this year, proving that renewables are resilient enough to grow despite regular attacks from the current regime.
As more clean energy-focused businesses like Turbo Energy S.A. (NASDAQ: TURB) make their entry onto the U.S. market, the uptake of renewable energy is bound to accelerate even more despite the unsupportive policies of the Trump administration.
